Universities boost property prices
Housing for students is becoming a growth area. Student numbers are at an all-time high and demand from international students has doubled in a decade. Places with high levels of foreign students are where the money will go – Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Sheffield, Nottingham and Manchester.
In Oxford: “A four-bed house in Summertown bought for £800,000 in 2009 would be marketed at £925,000 today,†says Simeon Spencer of John D Wood.
In Cambridge: “Good homes in good locations are up by 15 to 20 per cent. The most desirable parts are at pre-2007 prices,†says Richard Hatch of Carter Jonas.
