Forty people have been told they have two months to leave Earlham House from their next rent day, with their tenancies due to be terminated.
Tenants met with Green Party councillors Claire Stephenson and Denise Carlo at the Earlham Road complex today to discuss their futures.
Miss Stephenson said: “The meeting went very well and a large number of residents turned up. They are very, very concerned and very worried. A number of them want to stay in their flats a little bit longer, even if they have to move out.
“Two months is a very short space of time for people to have to move. Some people have holidays planned, some have work commitments.
“Also it’s expensive to move – that’s a difficulty.â€
Letters informing people of the changes were sent by Norfolk Property Management, on behalf of Bellgold Properties Ltd, who own the freehold to the site.
Norwich City Council last month approved Bellgold’s proposals to replace windows, doors and enclose balconies at the 84 flat-complex.
And little more than a week ago, councillors talked of a “bright future†for the site after years of problems for tenants.
Miss Stephenson added: “The news has definitely been a shock to the tenants.â€
One resident previously told the Evening News: “I’d be prepared to pay a higher rent, but I don’t seem to be being given that option. I’m just being told I have to go by August.â€
The Evening News contacted Bellgold Properties on Friday but no-one was available for comment.
A spokesman for Norfolk Property Management has said it is acting on behalf of the new owners, who had asked for tenants to be given notice.
